(何 西 阿 書 10:12) Sow with a view to righteousness, Reap in accordance with kindness; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the LORD Until He comes to rain righteousness on you.( Hosea 10:12)

STEWARDS OF THE LOVE OF GOD
Scripture: "Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful."—1 COR. iv. 1, 2.
A Steward is the man to whom the king or master entrusts his treasures and goods, to apportion to those who have a right to them. God in heaven needs men on earth to make known the treasures of His love, and to give them to those who have need. The minister of the Gospel is a steward of the mystery of God, and above all of the deep mystery of His everlasting love, and all the blessings that flow from it.

It is required in stewards that a man be found faithful; he must devote himself wholly to his life task. He must be faithful at his work, and always at his post in the palace or house where the treasures are stored up. So the minister of the Gospel must himself be faithful, living each day in the love and fellowship of God. He must be faithful not only to God, but to his fellow-men, caring for the needs of the souls entrusted to him, and ready to recommend God's love, and to share it with others. This divine love is a mystery, and can only dwell in a heart set apart for God and satisfied with His love, which flows from Him as a stream of living water.

O child of God, seek to have a deeper insight into what the office of a servant of God means, as a steward of the wonderful love of God to sinners. Pray much and often for your ministers that God may hide them in the secret of His tabernacle, so that they may be faithful stewards of the mystery of God, and chiefly of the mystery of Divine Love.

And you, my beloved brethren, to whom the love of God in heaven, and of Christ on the cross, is entrusted, remember that your congregation, your Church, and your people are dependent on your faithfulness in living a heavenly life in fellowship with God. Then you will be able with joy, and in the power of the Holy Ghost, to pass on the love of God to souls that so greatly need it.

Scripture: “If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”(1 John 2:1)
“If any man sin, we have an advocate.” Yes, though we sin, we have him still. John does not say, “If any man sin he has forfeited his advocate,” but “we have an advocate,” sinners though we are. All the sin that a believer ever did, or can be allowed to commit, cannot destroy his interest in the Lord Jesus Christ, as his advocate. The name here given to our Lord is suggestive. “Jesus.” Ah! then he is an advocate such as we need, for Jesus is the name of one whose business and delight it is to save. “They shall call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.” His sweetest name implies his success. Next, it is “Jesus Christ”—Christos, the anointed. This shows his authority to plead. The Christ has a right to plead, for he is the Father's own appointed advocate and elected priest. If he were of our choosing he might fail, but if God hath laid help upon one that is mighty, we may safely lay our trouble where God has laid his help. He is Christ, and therefore authorized; he is Christ, and therefore qualified, for the anointing has fully fitted him for his work. He can plead so as to move the heart of God and prevail. What words of tenderness, what sentences of persuasion will the anointed use when he stands up to plead for me! One more letter of his name remains, “Jesus Christ the righteous.” This is not only his character BUT his plea. It is his character, and if the Righteous One be my advocate, then my cause is good, or he would not have espoused it. It is his plea, for he meets the charge of unrighteousness against me by the plea that he is righteous. He declares himself my substitute and puts his obedience to my account. My soul, thou hast a friend well fitted to be thine advocate, he cannot but succeed; leave thyself entirely in his hands.

PASSING THE LOVE OF WOMEN
Scripture: "My brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women." —2 SAM. i. 26.
God created man in order to show what the power of love is, when a man strives for the welfare of others, and even gives up his life for them. He created woman to show what tenderness and quiet endurance are, when she sacrifices herself for the sake of others. A little child, during the first years of its life, is dependent on the mother. It is not only that the child may learn to love its mother, but that the mother herself may be trained in the school of self-sacrificing love, for her greatest adorning is "the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price" (1 Pet. iii. 4).

The tendency nowadays in public life is to place woman on an equal footing with man. This is only right in many cases. But one must not forget that the best ornament of a woman is a meek and quiet spirit, which is of great price in the sight of God, and of man, and which makes her a blessing in her home. It is the suffering, prayerful, all-conquering love of the wife and the mother which secures the happiness of a people.

Dear sisters, preserve as a great treasure the precious jewel which God has entrusted to you—to reflect the love of God in all its tenderness and sympathy. "As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you." Let each one, as she reads this book, take time to meditate on God's wonderful love, and pray for it earnestly in a receptive spirit. This will give her a heavenly influence and power over her husband and children, and in her dealings with her neighbors she will be a living witness to what the love of God can do.

Think of Mary, the woman who loved much, and the other women to whom the Lord revealed Himself on the resurrection morning. It was the love of these women that gave them the right to be the first to meet the Lord, and to take the message to the disciples.

God bless the mothers and wives and daughters of our land! May they prove in their lives how beautiful and powerful the love of women is! And the words from the time of David will still be true: "Wonderful as the love of women" is the love of God's children.

Scripture: “He himself hath suffered being tempted.”(Hebrews 2:18)
It is a common-place thought, and yet it tastes like nectar to the weary heart—Jesus was tempted as I am. You have heard that truth many times: have you grasped it? He was tempted to the very same sins into which we fall. Do not dissociate Jesus from our common manhood. It is a dark room which you are going through, but Jesus went through it before. It is a sharp fight which you are waging, but Jesus has stood foot to foot with the same enemy. Let us be of good cheer, Christ has borne the load before us, and the blood-stained footsteps of the King of glory may be seen along the road which we traverse at this hour. There is something sweeter yet—Jesus was tempted, but Jesus never sinned. Then, my soul, it is not needful for thee to sin, for Jesus was a man, and if one man endured these temptations and sinned not, then in his power his members may also cease from sin. Some beginners in the divine life think that they cannot be tempted without sinning, but they mistake; there is no sin in being tempted, but there is sin in yielding to temptation. Herein is comfort for the sorely tempted ones. There is still more to encourage them if they reflect that the Lord Jesus, though tempted, gloriously triumphed, and as he overcame, so surely shall his followers also, for Jesus is the representative man for his people; the Head has triumphed, and the members share in the victory. Fears are needless, for Christ is with us, armed for our defence. Our place of safety is the bosom of the Saviour. Perhaps we are tempted just now, in order to drive us nearer to him. Blessed be any wind that blows us into the port of our Saviour's love! Happy wounds, which make us seek the beloved Physician. Ye tempted ones, come to your tempted Saviour, for he can be touched with a feeling of your infirmities, and will succour every tried and tempted one.

THE WORKS OF THE FLESH
Scripture: "The works of the flesh are manifest; witchcraft, hatred, strife, jealousies, wrath, envyings, murders, and such like."—GAL. v. 19-21.
Paul in these three verses mentions seventeen of the terrible "works of the flesh." Nine of these are sins against love. And he says, elsewhere (Eph. iv. 31), "Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice." He here answers the question, why there is so little love amongst Christians, and why it is so hard to arouse such love. All these sins are "works of the flesh."

Even the earnest Christian is still in the flesh. Paul says: "In me, that is in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing"; "Because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God." It is quite impossible for a Christian by his own efforts to lead a life of love. Scripture says: "Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lusts of the flesh." The Spirit will enable us to keep the flesh always in subjection. The "fruit of the Spirit" will be Christ's love poured into our hearts as a fountain of love. Paul adds to what was quoted above: "The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin." The grace of God will enable the Christian to walk, not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Learn these three great lessons: 1. The Christian cannot in his own strength love God and his fellow-man. 2. The great reason of so much bitterness, and want of love, is that the Christian walks after the flesh. 3. The only sure way to abide in this life of love, to love God, and Christ, with the whole heart, to love the brethren fervently, and to have a tender compassionate love for all who do not yet know Christ—is an absolute surrender to the Holy Spirit, to be led and guided by Him each day of our lives. It is through the Holy Spirit that this love is shed abroad in our hearts.

Child of God, learn the lesson that the Holy Spirit will take entire possession of you, and will work continually within you a life of love to Christ and to all men. Pray over this thought, until it gains control of your whole being!
